BitchBoys
– Ride the First Wave (Golly Gee Records)
The Bitch Boys from Slovenia are rather known as contemporary, aggressive representatives
of the surf sound, but sometimes it seems to be time for everyone to look back.
On their new CD, Ride the first Wave, they deliver solid versions of
classic sixties surf tracks throughout. Besides the usual suspects like "Surf
Rider" and "Banzai Washout" you'll find obscure tracks from bands
like The Sportsmen, The Ghouls and east-German Theo Schuhmann Combo. Soundwise,
this album is more elegant than previous releases from the BitchBoys, supporting
the retro theme. Considering craftsmanship, there are no flaws--it's grooving
and twanging on all ends and despite the various composers the CD sounds monolithic.
Add superb cover design and you have finished an excellent CD.
