BitchBoys:   Behind The Hound Dog Walls

Tracks:

"James Bond Theme"
Never has John Barry's "James Bond Theme" been so twangy. Big vibrato chords rung out slowly along side the main melody line. Glissandoes and surf rhythms power the bridge. The lead guitar employs some intense whammy at times, and sometimes low-E double picking. Quite a fine track.

"The Final Ride"
The final ride is a fine melody with twang and spunk, and delicate double picking that gives it an almost Italian holiday sound. Slithery glissandoes round out a warm and adventurous track. Very nice.

"Mach One"
Dueling double picked guitars wail on the bridges in this fine track. Rich Mediterranean rhythms and a catchy melody line combine for a solid surf ride at high speed. An excellent track!

"Batman Theme"
Neil Hefti
's cheesy theme to the sixties television series is almost always played slim and choppy, but the Bitch Boys has given it a fuller, more continuous arrangement that brings it out of the just-another-cover room. Quite fun.

"Na Golici and Regiment po cesti gre"
This is entirely too fun. Traditional rhythms and reverb play against each other. "Na Golici and Regiment po cesti gre" is both fun and almost island paradise sounding. Many changes keep it interesting.

"Wipe Out"
Soft island chords and guitar lines introduce this mega hit. The Surfaris' "Wipe Out" has never been done like this! Stereo echo chords, fast double picked melody, full arrangement, and more. It's been many years since I've heard a cover of this song that was impressive, but this surely is. Totally original!

"Chi-Chi"
A chunky intro misleads you to expect a fast song, but once the melody arrives, the surprise is a soft and beautiful semi island song with long echo and reverb guitar. Then again, there is the fast verse. Kinda cool!
Surf Instrumental Stereo

"Teenage Surf Vampires"
"Teenage Surf Vampires" has a Romanian feel to it, with double picked guitar aping balalaika or mandolin on a melody the is haunting and sad. This is a fine track.

"Bitchoola"
Inspired by "Rockula," this song has some cool effects, creative production, and a splendid little riff. "Bitchoola" is haunting and quite unique among surf instros. A very spooky song with a vacuum effect that sucks you in.

"Misirlou / Hava Nagila"
Yup, it's another version of "Miserlou," but as with everything the Bitch Boys do, it takes on its own identify with their sound stamped squarely on it. Lot's of Dick Dale influence, and maybe the Lively Ones too, but also quite their own. "Hava Nagila" comes in about halfway through, and it's equally cool. Before the final verse, the "Miserlou Twist" arrangement takes over, then they revert to their original arrangement. Very cool!

"Stay Close To Me"
Slow and silky, "Stay Close To Me" employs subtle whammy for that island sound. Some lines are double picked on the low-E for a grumbly island side trip, but mostly this is a pleasant afternoon nap in a tropical breeze.
Surf Instrumental Stereo

"Walk Don't Run / Mr. Eminem"
Lots of cool string swipes accent the introduction to "Mr. Eminem" which gradually gives way to a speedy "Walk Don't Run." It's an interesting combo that's really on the unique side. Once again, the Bitch Boys' arranging skills have recreated this over covered classic in their own mold. It closes out with a fast and raucous jam on the main riff.

"Apache"
Jerry Lordan
claim to fame gets a bit of sped up liquefied dribble. Rich and fluid, "Apache" is remade into a unique sound, very unlike all other covers. Quite effective and attractive.

"The Magnificent Seven"
"The Magnificent Seven" a.k.a. "Smogevci" sports stereo echoed guitar for a scary and unusual sound on this great film theme. Not enough bands work with this song, and of course the Bitch Boys have given it their own twist. Great double picking and cool production on this fine song.
Surf Instrumental Stereo

"Nitrus"
With a big nod to Dick Dale, the Bitch Boys liquefy "Nitrus" while retaining the edge and grumble. Lots of fire in their bones as they slither through this song.
Surf Instrumental Stereo

"Devojko Mala"
Moody and distant, "Devojko Mala" delicately flows like water from the carafe of surf. It's quite romantic, even once it speeds up.
Surf Instrumental Stereo

"Knucklehead"
Moody with dungeonous reverb, "Knucklehead" is a sparkling song with great chords and cool riffs. Haunting life lost in the surf sounds and stereo guitar echo. Dramatic and sad.
Surf Instrumental Stereo

"The Wedge"
Dick Dale
's masterpiece "The Wedge" fires off with speed and glistening walls of green. While fairly traditional, it's also bright and less menacing than most other versions, and the stereo guitar adds a wide dimensional sound. the disturbed glissandoes towards the end and the play-down are really good!
Surf Instrumental Stereo

"Stay Close To Me" [alt]
This is another take of "Stay Close To Me" with a moody haunted sound and romantic feel. Very pretty!
