BitchBoys Special Release for April 1, 2004 Concert
I must say, Robi, this CD was quite a surprise. While I applaud your courageous move into new territory, and the imaginitive way you blended the surf sounds with the vocal material, I must confess to being underwhelmed. It's not that I don't like it. After all, I am a creature of contrasts myself, but when you try to blend melodic and pristine Fender reverb guitars with a vocal styling that calls to mind constipation of the throat, or perhaps amplified flatulance, and especially given the almost Britney Spears lyrical content... well, it just doesn't work for me.
Having said that, there is a magnetic quality to the music, like not being able to turn away from an horrific traffic accident. I fear Slovenia will not recover from the damage you have done to her reputation as a world center for adventurous surf. Perhaps the Bananas and Tubestone can carry on now that you have veered off the surf highway.
To spin this in a positive direction, I think fans of Joe Cocker or Charlie Whitney would find the vocal styling familiar, though a little challenging, and would therefore appreciate the disc.
Good luck with your new release.
