Ride the First Wave

surf rock goes a long way, which is about par for a genre that hasn't really
evolved in 40+ years. Still I like to give the newest-latest at least a
cursory spin in the hopes of being ahead of the curve on the next Phantom
Surfers or Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet or Man or Astro-Man?.
Unfortunately for Bitch Boys their genius in the band-naming department doesn't extend to their recorded output. Ride the First Wave is 30(!) tracks of Dick Dale-influenced surf guitar. Things get a little repetitive around track, um, 4, but then again it's hard to totally be bored by surf rock, and it's hard to stay mad at a band so thorough in their traditionalism. Nothing new here, but I guess that's not really the point. |
